♦ Cleaning tips:

• Treat your machine to an annual dealer cleaning. As a reminder each year, take it in when you start spring cleaning at home.

• Use compressed air, or small specialized vacuum cleaners (sold at dealerships). Avoid standard vacuum cleaners, because they can actually “inhale” parts of the serger.

• For thorough cleaning, remove the presser foot, disengage the knives and remove the throat plate.

• Oil with Teflon® oil, sold at machine dealers. Oil where metal meets metal—usually four main locations on the machine (see How-To's for Healthy Sergers). Follow the oiling guidelines outlined in your manual.

• Oil self-lubricating sergers if they haven't been used for a while (the machine needs to run in order for the parts to self-lubricate).

• Once a month, remove the underside casing of your serger. Just a couple of screws hold it in place (C). If unsure, consult with your dealer about how to remove it. Wash it off with soap and water.
